Google Ads for auto repair shops, pointed at the jobs you want

Paid search can put your shop at the top of the page the day you turn it on, and takes you off it the day you stop paying. That makes it useful when the bays are light, and expensive when nobody is reading the account. We build the account around the repairs you actually want to book, and quote a flat monthly fee after a free look at your market.

Why most auto repair ad accounts leak money

Most shop owners we talk to have tried Google Ads already. It usually went one of two ways: a rep set up a Smart campaign over the phone in a few minutes, or a marketing company aimed a budget at the words "auto repair" and sent every click to the homepage. Both spend real money without watching which searches end with a car in a bay.

What we actually manage in the account

Paid search is not one job. It is a stack of small ones, and each wastes money quietly when it gets skipped.

Those are the levers within reach, and the monthly report says plainly what we pulled and why. Competitor bids, auction prices on a given day, and whether the counter picks up are not ours to control.

The math behind a click for a repair shop

Paid search works when the arithmetic works, so it is worth doing before the first dollar moves.

Start with intent. "Mechanic near me" is the broadest and usually the priciest search in the trade, and the person typing it might want a cheap oil change or might be facing a four-figure engine job. You cannot tell from the search. Narrower phrasing, a check engine light diagnostic in your town, or a make plus a symptom, costs less and comes from someone closer to booking. Less volume, better quality. A sensible account buys some of both and watches which one pays.

Then work out what a booked job is worth to you: your average repair order, your gross profit on it, and how often a first-time customer comes back. If several clicks make the phone ring and several rings fill a bay, cost per booked job is the only number that matters. A shop that keeps customers for years can pay more per click than one that sells a single repair and never sees the car again. We ask for your figures on the consult rather than guessing.

Click prices move by market and by repair, so we pull current estimates for your zip codes with you. Your calendar matters too: the first hot stretch moves AC searches, the first cold snap moves batteries and no-starts, and inspection deadlines create their own rush.

Landing pages, tracked calls, and who picks up the phone

Two things decide whether ad money becomes work: the page the click lands on, and what happens in the two minutes after.

The page should answer the exact search that paid for it. Brake ads go to a brake page. Above the fold: the repair, the phone number as a tap target, today's hours, the address, and how soon you can look at the car. Below that, the things people are quietly worried about. Whether you charge a diagnostic fee and what happens to it if they approve the work. What the warranty covers. Whether they can drop the car overnight. None of it is invented for the ad. It is your own policy written down, and it settles the question that stops someone from calling.

Tracking is the other half. A tracked number on ad traffic shows which calls the ads produced, and the search terms behind them show what to bid on next month. Recording those calls is a separate matter, since state law treats it differently depending on where you and the caller sit, so we set it up only where you have confirmed it is allowed. The last stretch is yours either way: ads buy the ring, not the booking.

Where paid search and SEO fit together for a shop

Ads are rented. Rankings are owned. That difference decides where your first dollar should go.

Running ads does not improve your organic rankings or your position in the map pack, and anyone selling paid clicks as a ranking strategy is selling something else. What ads do hand you, besides visibility this month, is data: the real searches people used to find your shop, which is the best list there is of pages to write next.

Search is also shifting toward answers people never click, which is what our AI search work deals with. Everything we do for shops sits on the auto repair overview.

What makes Kelly WM different for a shop like yours

There is a version of this service that runs on a template: one campaign structure copied across every client, a shared keyword list, a busy dashboard, and a percentage of your budget billed monthly. It scales well for the agency, and it is why plenty of owners have a bad story about trying Google Ads once.

How we start, and what management costs

Four steps, the same whether you are starting fresh or taking over an account somebody else built.

Two fee models are common in this industry. Some agencies bill a percentage of your ad spend, so their pay rises whenever your budget does. Others bill a flat monthly fee whatever the budget. We use the flat model and quote it after the free consult, once we have seen what the account will take to run. There is no published number, because scope varies too much from a single-bay shop to a multi-location operation.

Your ad budget is separate, goes to Google on your own card, and is never marked up. If a landing page or a rebuilt site is part of the job, a custom-coded build runs $3,500 to $12,000 or more, one time, with a free mockup first. Ongoing organic work runs $1,500 to $3,500 a month for most shops, $3,500 to $7,500 in competitive metros or for multiple locations, with detail in how much SEO costs.

Common questions

What should an auto repair shop budget for clicks?

It depends on your market and on which repairs you advertise, because click prices swing widely between them. Rather than quote a figure we read somewhere, we pull current estimates for your zip codes on the consult. Your ad budget is separate from our fee and goes to Google on your own card. If the honest floor for your market is more than you want to spend, we will say so.

What do you charge to manage Google Ads?

A flat monthly fee, quoted after a free consult. Two models are common in this industry: a percentage of ad spend, or a flat fee. We use the flat one, so our invoice does not climb when your budget does. We do not publish a single number, because the right fee depends on how many services and towns the account covers. Month to month, no long-term contract.

Will running ads help our map pack or organic rankings?

No. Paid clicks do not lift your organic position or your place in the local map results, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. They are separate systems. What ads do give you is real search-term data showing how people look for your repairs, which makes the organic and Google Business Profile work smarter when you get to it.

Can you promise a cost per call or a number of jobs?

No, and we will not put one in writing. Google Ads is a live auction, so competitor bidding, seasonality, and demand move the price week to week. What we can do is structure the account carefully, cut waste, point clicks at a page built for the search, and report the real numbers monthly. Anyone guaranteeing a fixed cost per call in an auction they do not control is guessing.

Do we own the Google Ads account?

Yes. The account is opened in your name, or handed to you if we build it, and the campaign history and conversion data belong to you. The same holds across everything we do: the site, the content, and the tracking are yours as well. If we stop working together you keep all of it and can hand it to whoever comes next.

Should we run ads or work on SEO first?

It depends what you need. If bays are empty this month, ads are the faster lever, since they can be live in days. If your Google Business Profile is thin or the site is slow, fixing those often does more per dollar, because plenty of near-me searchers pick straight from the map pack. Plenty of shops run both, with ads covering the months while organic work builds.
