Why a direct review link matters

Google reviews are one of the strongest signals in local search. More reviews, fresh reviews, and a steady stream of them help you rank in the Map Pack and win the click when customers are choosing who to call. The single biggest barrier to getting them is friction, and a direct review link removes it.

How it works

Normally a customer has to search your name, find your listing, scroll, and hunt for the review button. Every extra step loses people. A direct link drops them straight into the review box. Paste your Google Place ID for a one-tap writereview link, or use your business name and city for a Maps link that opens your listing.

Where to use your link and QR

Text or email the link right after a job while the experience is fresh. Print the QR code on invoices, receipts, business cards, yard signs, and a small counter card. A sticker on the truck works too. The easier you make it, the more reviews you get.

Pro tips

  • Ask in person first, then send the link, people who say “yes, I’ll leave a review” follow through far more when the link arrives seconds later.
  • Never gate or filter reviews (offering the link only to happy customers). It violates Google’s policies and can get reviews removed.
  • Reply to every review, positive and negative. It is a ranking and trust signal.
  • A QR on the invoice is the highest-converting placement for home-service businesses.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Google Place ID?
Use Google’s free Place ID Finder (linked on the tool). Search your business, and it shows the ID that starts with “ChIJ”. Paste it in for the most direct, one-tap review link.
Is it against Google’s rules to ask for reviews?
No, asking is fine and encouraged. What’s not allowed is review gating (only asking happy customers), offering incentives, or writing fake reviews. Ask everyone, equally.
Does the QR code expire?
No. It encodes your review link, which doesn’t change. Print it once and use it for years.
Why do reviews help my rankings?
Google uses review quantity, quality, recency, and your responses as local ranking signals. Businesses with more and fresher reviews tend to rank higher in the Map Pack and earn more clicks.
