The subtotal is the sum of every line (quantity times unit price). If you enter a markup percentage, it is applied to the subtotal first. Tax is then applied to that marked-up amount to give the total. A deposit percentage, if set, is calculated against the total so you and the client both see the exact amount due to schedule the job. Nothing is rounded in a way that hides money.
