Does AI search matter for duct cleaning companies?

The short answer: Yes, but as a second front, not a replacement for the search you know. Homeowners now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews whether duct cleaning is worth the money and who in town can be trusted, and the reply can come back as a short, confident list of companies. No ad budget decides who that organic list names, and it is not random: engines name businesses they can identify clearly and quote accurately. Most duct cleaning jobs still start in ordinary search and the Map Pack, so keep earning those and write your site so the AI answers can pull from it too.

Homeowners ask the AI whether they need this at all

Watch how one of these jobs starts. A homeowner sees grey fuzz on a return vent after a remodel, or the dryer needs two cycles to finish a load of towels. What they type first is not a company name. It is a question: is duct cleaning a scam, does it help with allergies, how often is this supposed to be done.

Those are chat questions, and chat handles them well. The engine does not sell. It hedges the way an honest technician hedges: it depends on visible mold, on recent construction, on whether something has been living in the ductwork, on how the dryer run is routed. That is most of the conversation your best tech has on the phone, now happening before the phone rings.

Then comes the follow up that pays: who should I call about this. By then the engine has framed the job and probably raised the thing your trade is known for, the cheap whole house special that becomes a much bigger invoice once the van is in the driveway. Your industry carries that reputation whether or not you earned it. Companies named in that answer start the call already half trusted. The ones left out argue with an answer they never saw.

That is the honest case for caring: the part of the sale you used to win on the phone is often finished before the call. Here is how to check whether your business shows up in AI search.

What actually gets a duct cleaning company named in the answer

Engines do not pull names out of the air. They build a short list from sources they can read, identify, and cross check. Three things decide whether you are in the pool.

None of this is a separate discipline. It is the same work that earns rankings and reviews, done so a machine can read it too. That is what AI Search Optimization means here, on top of ordinary local SEO and a filled in Google Business Profile.

What ad money buys around these answers, and what it does not

Two things are true at once, and leaving out either makes the answer wrong.

The first: Google now sells ad placements in and around AI Overviews and AI Mode, and other engines are testing the same. Anyone still telling you AI answers are an ad free zone is describing a version of search that has moved on.

The second, and the one that decides how you spend: no ad budget decides which businesses the organic answer itself names and recommends. When a homeowner asks which duct cleaning company to trust, the list inside that answer is built from what the engines can read and verify. You can buy the ad slots that run with it. The recommendation stays earned after you stop spending.

So run both. Google Ads buys attention this week, which matters when a scorched smelling dryer vent will not wait. We quote ads management flat after a free consult, never as a cut of your spend.

Start with the questions you already answer on every call

None of this needs a rebuild or a new budget line. In order:

 1. Write down the questions you answer on every call. How often does this need doing. Will it help my allergies. What does it cost, and why do other companies quote less. Then answer them on your site, with the caveats you would give on the phone. Those caveats are the part machines quote, because they read as true.
 2. Make the boring things match: name, address, phone, hours, and service area, identical on the site, the profile, and the directories.
 3. Keep the rest running. Ordinary results and the Map Pack are still where most duct cleaning calls begin, and the pages that win them are the pages engines read.

The money questions have their own pages: what monthly SEO runs for a duct cleaning company and whether it pays off at your job values. What we build for this trade sits on the air duct cleaning page.

Duct cleaning is not a monthly purchase. A homeowner may not think about the ductwork again for years after your van pulls away, so the moment they finally ask is the only moment you get. More of those moments now happen in front of an answer that already named somebody. We are Orlando based and have worked with local service businesses nationwide since 2008. Related questions

We are an HVAC company that also cleans ducts. Does that hurt us when someone asks an AI for a duct cleaner?

Not by itself. What hurts is burying duct and dryer vent work three levels down in a services menu, so nothing on the site reads as a duct cleaning company. Give the work its own page, written the way a specialist would write it: process, limits, how you price. The HVAC side becomes an advantage once it is stated plainly, because a homeowner told the ducts are fine and the real problem is the blower remembers who told them.

Do dryer vent questions behave the same way in AI search?

They come in hotter. Someone whose dryer needs three cycles and smells warm is looking for a reason to worry, and the answer they get sets the urgency before you ever speak. If dryer vent cleaning is real revenue, it deserves its own page and its own honest answer about when it matters, not one line on a service list.

Should we move budget out of Map Pack work and into AI search?

No, and that swap is a tempting mistake. The Google Map Pack has not stopped sending duct cleaning calls, and the profile, reviews, and service area pages that win it are the same assets the AI answers read. The answer layer is another return on work you already do.
