Local SEO for addiction treatment centers, done right

When a family searches for treatment near a city, whether it's their own or one two states away, the map and the handful of listings under it are most of what they actually see. Many addiction treatment centers show up there inconsistently: an unclaimed profile, a suspended one, or a location page that reads exactly like every other city page on the site. We handle the local search side of that: Google Business Profile, citations, and location pages that say something true, priced month to month.

Why most addiction treatment centers don't show up in local search

For most of the searches that matter here, rehab near me, detox in a specific city, residential treatment near a specific area, Google shows a map with three listings above everything else. If a center's Google Business Profile isn't set up correctly, or isn't verified at all, that center is invisible before anyone scrolls past the map. It does not matter how good the website underneath it is.

Addiction treatment is a category Google watches closely, and not without reason. Years of fake storefronts and call-center locations set up purely to rank in the map pack got the whole category flagged, and Google has stayed cautious about it since. A profile that gets miscategorized, shares an address with an unrelated business, or never finishes verification can lose map-pack visibility entirely, often with little explanation given.

Then there is the basic housekeeping most sites never do. The phone number listed on one directory doesn't match the one on the website. An address from a location that closed two years ago is still sitting on a directory nobody remembers submitting to. Google, and increasingly the AI tools summarizing local results, both read that kind of inconsistency as a sign a listing can't be trusted.

Multi-location groups add a second problem on top of that. One generic locations page, or a handful of city pages built from the same three sentences with the city name changed, does not read as several real locations to Google. It does not read as helpful to a family trying to figure out which address actually offers residential care and which one is outpatient only, either.

The stakes are higher here than in most fields, too. Google requires LegitScript certification before an addiction treatment provider can run a single paid search ad, and that process takes many centers months to finish, if they attempt it at all. Organic and map-pack visibility are not gated behind that certification. For a lot of centers, this is not one marketing channel among several. It is close to the only one available while certification is pending.

What we actually do

Local SEO is the work that decides whether a center shows up on the map when someone searches, not just whether the site looks good once they arrive. For addiction treatment centers, that means:

This sits underneath a site that is custom-coded, not a shared theme, and it connects to the broader AI search work, since the same accurate, structured information that helps a center rank locally is what an AI tool needs to cite it correctly instead of guessing. See local SEO for how this works in general, and how we build for the site side of it.

How this works for addiction treatment centers specifically

Most local SEO advice assumes people want the closest option. In this field that assumption is often backwards. A family searching from one city may be looking at programs in another state entirely, sometimes on purpose, to get someone away from a using environment or people who know them. A center that only optimizes for its own zip code is leaving out a real share of the people who actually call.

Inquiries are not steady through the year either. It's well known in this field that calls and searches tend to climb after the holidays, into January, when a hard year comes to a head for a lot of families. A Google Business Profile with stale hours, no recent posts, and old photos going into that stretch looks abandoned at exactly the moment demand peaks.

Groups with more than one physical location need each one verified and listed on its own, at its real address, offering the level of care actually available there. That is also the more defensible way to handle it. The category's history of centers setting up address-only locations purely to rank is part of why Google is cautious with every listing in it now, honest ones included.

Reviews carry real weight in map-pack ranking, but this is not a field where a center asks every discharge for a Google review the way a landscaper asks every customer. Testimonials need real, written consent, and usually need to be de-identified. We build that process around what is appropriate for a healthcare-adjacent audience, never around collecting reviews as fast as possible.

None of this is legal advice, and we are not a compliance firm, but location pages, review requests, and intake forms get built with HIPAA-conscious handling in mind, and nothing we write makes a treatment claim, an outcome promise, or implies a cure. That caution applies whether or not a certification like LegitScript is even in play, because it is the right way to write for this field either way.

What makes Kelly WM different

Most vendors willing to take on a compliance-heavy client like an addiction treatment center respond by playing it safe: generic city pages, a review policy that avoids the subject entirely, boilerplate built to avoid risk rather than to actually be found. We do more of the real work instead.

For the broader picture of how we work with this field, see addiction treatment. If a center needs more than the local side, compare this to the full SEO for addiction treatment centers service, or start with websites for addiction treatment centers if the site itself needs rebuilding first.

How the process works

What local SEO for addiction treatment centers costs

Local SEO for most addiction treatment centers runs $1,500 to $3,500 a month. Centers in competitive metro markets, or groups managing more than one physical location, usually land at $3,500 to $7,500 a month, since each additional location means another profile to maintain and another page that has to be genuinely distinct, not copy-pasted. We quote it after a free look at what's live now.

Every engagement is month to month. No long-term contract, no cancellation fee, and a center keeps ownership of its profile, its site, its content, and every account tied to it. For more on how this kind of pricing and timeline generally works, see how much SEO costs and how long SEO takes.

Common questions

Can you guarantee we'll show up in the map pack?

No, and any agency promising a specific map-pack position or ranking is not being straight with you. Nobody outside Google controls placement, and it shifts constantly regardless of who is doing the work. What we control is whether your Google Business Profile is set up correctly, whether your citations are consistent, and whether your location pages actually answer what someone is searching. That is the work we do and report on.

Do we need LegitScript certification for local SEO?

No. LegitScript certification is required before an addiction treatment provider can run paid search ads on Google or Bing, and that process is between you and LegitScript directly, we don't handle it. Local SEO, meaning your Google Business Profile, citations, and location pages, is organic and isn't gated behind that certification. For a lot of centers waiting on certification, this is the main channel available in the meantime.

How is this different from SEO for addiction treatment centers or a new website?

Local SEO is the map-pack and near-me side: Google Business Profile, citations, and location pages. SEO for addiction treatment centers is the broader work across the whole site, content strategy and AI search visibility included. Websites for addiction treatment centers covers the site itself if it needs rebuilding first. Most centers eventually need more than one of these, and we can start with whichever is weakest right now.

Will you use our patients' reviews or testimonials to help local rankings?

Only with real, written consent, and only if they can be de-identified appropriately. Reviews do factor into map-pack ranking, but we won't run a blanket ask-everyone campaign in a field where privacy and dignity matter this much. If a center already has consented testimonials, we can use them. If not, we build local trust through accurate, complete Google Business Profile information and honest content instead.

We have more than one location. Does that change how this works?

Yes. Each physical location needs its own Google Business Profile, verified individually at its real address, and its own location page describing the level of care actually offered there, not a shared page with a city name swapped in. Google has gotten strict about the addiction treatment category specifically because of centers that used to set up address-only locations just to rank, so doing this correctly, for real locations, matters more here than in most fields.

Do you work with centers outside Florida?

Yes. Kelly Webmasters and Marketers is based in Orlando, Florida, and works with local service businesses nationwide since 2008. Almost all of this work, Google Business Profile setup, citation cleanup, and location pages, happens remotely no matter where a center is physically located. A site visit is rarely necessary for local SEO specifically, since most of it is profile and content work, not in-person work.
